Can drinking cola help students concentrate?
This lesson was piloted with Key Stage 3 students at Lingfield College, Surrey, but can be used or adapted to other age groups.
Students are introduced to the concept of a randomized trial and the terminology involved. They design design and participate in a simple trial to test an advertising claim, then evaluate their trial.

- Explain the role of blinding in trials

As this activity involves consumption of soft drinks, it should take place outside of a science lab. Allergies of participants should be checked and participants given the opportunity to opt out. Local risk assessment is the responsibility of the teacher.
